Sights and places to see in Morocco

Marrakech is a fascinating city with miles of bewildering streets, hidden courtyard restaurants, beautiful mosques, musician and snake charmers with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop. The Djemaa el Fna or “Big Square” has a unique day or night atmosphere and offers a variety of things to do. There are also various gardens, palaces and the famous labyrinth souks to keep you amused.

There are some wonderful beaches in Morocco and the sun shines almost year round offering a perfect destination for those who want to combine a traditional sea, sun and sand holiday with an exotic and cultured experience. Essaouira is on Morocco’s Atlantic Coast and is well loved by artists and poets. It is a small traditional walled town that has beautiful Portuguese architecture and attractive fishing port.

Weather, flight and travel information in and around Morocco

Morocco has plenty of international airports and so is well linked to the rest of the world. It is even possible to take your own car as there is a variety of ferries from the Algericas in Spain to Tangier or Ceuta in Morocco that are quite straightforward to catch.

Domestic flights are a plenty and a good way to move around, there is also a modern rail and bus service that link most of the main centres. The trains are generally comfortable and offer sleeping cars for the longer trips. The bigger cities offer a public bus service and taxis are common. Hiring a car is a great way to get around.

Morocco’s climate can be very varied from the snow capped mountain peaks to the scorching deserts. The coastal areas are comfortable throughout the year as the temperatures change very little. The cities further inland such as Fez and Marrakech experience a more extreme climate, July and August are very hot and the winter November to February can get quite cold.
