Merseyside / Liverpool; In Liverpool everywhere you look there are handsome old buildings are getting facials and brand new ones are getting built in preparation for 2008, when the city will become the European Capital of Culture. The city also has excellent art galleries and museums and varied nightlife, when you visit you will realise there is more to life here beyond the Beatles.

Northumberland offers castle spotting along its blustery white-sand beaches. Its historical town Alnwick has an imposing castle, a favourite for filmmakers. Northumberland’s National Park is nearly 400 sq miles of natural wonderland with a challenging landscape to explore.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne; it would be a crime when visiting the area not to experience Newcastle’s wild nightlife. Newcastle has now transformed itself into one of the most dynamic urban centres in Britain from a coal mining community.

Yorkshire; Yorkshire folk have a sense of national pride and are only half-joking when they talk of living in God’s Own country. York is just dripping with history and heritage. It is a city of extraordinary cultural and historical wealth. There is a medieval spider’s web of narrow streets enclosed by a magnificent circuit of 13th century walls and then in it’s heart is the immense, awe-inspiring and one of the most beautiful gothic cathedrals in the world.

Sheffield has moved on from the steel industry and has work hard to successfully re-invent itself. It’s now home to smart galleries and restaurants that are springing up and several new attractions that are based on the industrial past are well-worth the visit.

Leeds is almost a proper reflection of the contemporary British spirit. It is now the biggest financial centre in the country outside of London and also has one of the biggest nightlife scenes.
