Kent, if you are looking for beach towns and cathedrals then it does not get better than Kent. Home to the famous White Cliff’s of Dover and several classic 19th century seaside resorts.
There are several famous walking paths in this part of England, most famously the North Downs Way, starting at Farnham and finishing on the east coast at Dover – but beware this is a 157 mile hike.
Surrey is a great commuter base for London, Surrey’s landscape has some inspiring settings made famous by authors such as Jane Austen. If your visiting London, this nearby place is a great way to experience the famous English countryside.
Sussex is separated as West Sussex and East Sussex, West Sussex is less crowded as many of the other parts of this region making it a welcome respite for weary travellers. Manicured rolling hills dominate much of the countryside and Arundel, home to a 700-year old castle, is it’s prettiest town. Like the rest of the county, East Sussex has some gorgeous countryside, but it is also home to Brighton, where the superb beaches and nightlife make it an absolute must for any visitor. Not far you will also find Rye, a picturesque cobblestone, medieval village. Eastbourne is also a long favourite coastal resort and is a lovely Victorian town with a well-kept pier and gardens.
Stately Home fans should head to England’s most magnificent Jacobean mansion Hatfield House in Hertfordshire and the ancient Farnham Castle in Surrey.
