Greenpeace security breach at Heathrow airport.
Heathrow airport has suffered a major security breach today as four Greenpeace climate campaigners have climbed on top of a plane at the airport.
The four Greenpeace protestors waited until passengers had disembarked from the plane, then walked through double doors at Heathrow Terminal 1, crossed the tarmac and climbed stairs onto the fuselage of the plane. They then unveiled a banner with the words “Climate Emergency – No Third Runway”.
Airline Ryanair offers 1 million seats for 1p.
Low fares airline Ryanair is offering one million seats for just 1p including taxes and charges from Tuesday following the upgrading of its website.
Ryanair’s online booking system and call centre was closed for part of the weekend in order to comply with the Office of Fair Trading’s directive to include taxes and other charges in the headline price for flights. Now the low cost airline has responded with a massive seat sale.
Branson wants third runway at Heathrow.
Virgin Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson says a third runway at Heathrow is essential or London will lose out to other major airports like Frankfurt.
The government consultation about a third runway at Heathrow – called ‘Adding capacity at Heathrow airport’ – closes this Wednesday. Branson believes that multi-national businesses will move away from London if the third runway at Heathrow isn’t built.
New UK flight paths proposed.
Air traffic routes across London and southern and eastern England may be overhauled by Spring 2009, if planned changes go ahead.
National Air Traffic Services (NATS) manages air traffic across the UK and is proposing the changes in order to improve safety, reduce delays, improve environmental performance and introduce updated navigation technology.
The Terminal Control North airspace region is home to around 12 million people and some of the UK's busiest airports, which have grown significantly in the last 20 years. Heathrow, Luton, London City, Northolt and Stansted airports are all affected by the proposals.
T4 baggage update.
British Airways and BAA confirmed that problems with the baggage system at Heathrow Terminal 4 have been resolved.
All passengers flying from T4 can travel with their normal hand and hold baggage. However, transfer passengers passing through the terminal will not be able to check in luggage and should contact their airline.
