BA may be official airline of London Olympics.

British Airways is expected to be announced as the official airline of the 2012 Olympics in London as it ends sponsorship of popular attraction the London Eye.

Marketing website brandrepublic.com says that BA will pay around £50 million to be a ‘tier-one’ domestic sponsor for the London Olympics. Other UK household names that have already been confirmed as tier-one sponsors for the Games are Adidas, EDF Energy and Lloyds TSB.

Jet2 offers 10,000 free flights.

Leeds Bradford airport based low cost airline Jet2.com is offering the chance to win 10,000 free flights in a new competition to celebrate its fifth birthday.

The competition starts on 12 February at 10am and in order to win the free flights entrants are asked to identify images from the 36 destinations Jet2 serves from Leeds Bradford airport.

Low cost airline Flybe will begin flights from Newcastle airport to Gatwick from 30 March, and new flights to Aberdeen and Rennes.

The three times weekday service between Newcastle and Gatwick will have a lead-in fare from £21.99 one way including taxes and charges. Jet2.com will cease flying from Newcastle airport to Gatwick from 29 March, but passengers booked with Jet2 from 30 March can transfer to Flybe at no extra cost.

Airline Flybe to award degrees.

Low cost airline Flybe is one of only three companies in the UK which will be able to award their own qualifications.

Flybe, which bills itself as ‘Europe’s largest regional airline’ and is based at Exeter airport, will be able to award qualifications in its airline trainer programme to cabin crew and engineering staff from level 2 (GCSE) up to degree level (level 4).

Charges for airlines and passengers at Stansted airport could double as the CAA begins a consultation on the price regulated airport.

Earlier this month transport Secretary Ruth Kelly overruled the CAA’s recommendation that a cap on charges at Stansted should be scrapped. The CAA is now looking at the options on how to determine what the new charges should be at the airport from April 2009.
