Airport lounges unveiled at Heathrow Terminal 5.

British Airways has announced details of the new luxury airport lounges at Heathrow Terminal 5 which opens on 27 March.

The six airport lounges at the new T5 are being called Galleries by BA and have cost £60 million to build. BA says they will be “the epitome of elegance and luxury”.

Most exclusive of the new lounges at T5 is the Concorde Room, designed for up to 156 first class passengers and special guests. As well as a bar and restaurant, the lounge has a dedicated concierge desk and a boardroom.

Irish airline to start Belfast to Paris flights.

Aer Lingus will be starting new flights from Belfast International airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle from 30 March.

Fares on the daily service will start from £25 one way including taxes and charges. But in order to start the new flights to Paris, Aer Lingus will be redeploying one of the planes currently on its Belfast to Amsterdam service. This will mean it will run only one flight a day to Amsterdam, instead of two as at present.

Low cost airlines least child friendly.

Low fares airlines including Ryanair and easyJet have fared badly in Rough Guide’s survey of the most child friendly airlines.

The airline voted best for kids in the Rough Guide survey was Virgin Atlantic, with 36% of the votes. In second place was British Airways with 32%. But easyJet picked up only 6% of the vote, while Ryanair with just 2% was the least popular airline with families.

Heathrow acts to stop lost baggage.

Heathrow airport owner BAA and Emirates Airline are trialling RFID technology at Heathrow to improve baggage handling and overcome problems with lost and delayed bags.

BAA is hailing RFID (radio frequency identification) as “an enormous step forward in baggage handling”. The six months, £150,000 trial at Heathrow will test RFID against the airport’s existing barcode tracking system.

Most romantic locations for Valentines.If you’re looking for a last minute flight from your local airport for Valentine’s Day, the top 10 places in Europe to propose have been revealed.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, travellers and editors at the travel and holiday advice website TripAdvisor have been nominating the most romantic destinations in Europe to pop the question.

The best place to propose in Europe, according to findings, is the Eiffel Tower in Paris, perhaps the most romantic city in the world. “Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and pop the question atop the Eiffel Tower after enjoying the beautiful views of Paris,” advises one traveller.

High places seem to be popular because at number 2 is the British Airways London Eye. Top advice here to make the most of the romantic moment is to avoid onlookers and book a private capsule complete with champagne.

Completing the top three is a more suprising choice – Oia in the beautiful Greek island of Santorini. The caldera in Oia offers breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and stunning sunsets.
